I came across hotel Holiday Inn Express while doing an internet search on hotels near Messe Munchen (Messe is a German word for trade fair while Munchen is German for Munich). I was visiting the city to attend a business event scheduled at the trade fair venue located nearby and wanted to stay near the fair venue to reduce my daily time of commute.
Holiday Inn Express located approximately 2 kilometers from the trade fair venue fulfilled this key requirement and as such I decided to book myself a room at the hotel for my travel to the city. I booked a room for six nights using a leading online travel portal and got a fair deal considering it was peak season.
Holiday Inn Express, Messe Munchen is located in Feldkirchen, a municipality of Munich located approximately 10 kilometres from city center. Feldkirchen was lesser populated compared to other parts of the city, as I later realised during my stay at the hotel. One of the reasons could be the surrounding areas, which were primarily residential. There were hardly any commercial establishments except another mid-tier hotel – Ibis – nearby. The large tracts of green fields in the vicinity provided the locality a kind of country-side feel.
Holiday Inn Express, Messe Munchen is primarily a business hotel with a three star rating. Room sizes are standard with the option of both king size and split beds. There is an in-house restaurant serving continental food. It also has a decently stocked bar. The rooms are clean and offer free wi-fi to guests which is a boon for international tourists with limited mobile internet connectivity. The hotel serves a buffet breakfast in the morning. Choices are limited but is a relief for lone business travellers like me. The bar remains open 24 x 7 and offers some good locally brewed beer. I recommend travellers to experience the local beers ‘from the tap’ rather than the bottle.
Overall, the hotel provides a comfortable stay. Nothing grand, but good enough for an average international business traveller.
The one thing that stands out about the hotel is its friendly and affectionate staff. Be it an extra dose of caffeine (read tea) or an iron stand to iron your shirt – they will go out of the way to help you and make your stay comfortable.
I recommend this hotel to everyone travelling to Munich to attend a fair at Messe Center. It is one of the best amongst hotels near Messe Munchen. It will definitely help you save some precious Euros on taxis and offer you a peaceful stay in the city.
